Alajuela:
Costa Rica’s second largest city is Alajuela. This city is situated in the beautiful Central Valley. In the past, Alajuela was the capital of Costa Rica and it has a great history. The district of Alajuela covers an area of 8.88 km, and has a population of 46,554.
Alajuela is divided into 14 districts, known as “distritos”. The province of Alajuela is one of the most extensive in the country. It borders to the north with Nicaragua, to the south with the province of San Jose, to the east with the province of Heredia and to the west with the provinces of Guanacaste and Puntarenas.
